The Ring:
•Original ring in the photos has been sold and is used to show you what these rings look like once I have completed them
•Handmade by me in my Vancouver, Canada, home studio in your ring size, using diamond of your choice with gold colour, karat, and finish of your choice
•Completely hand fabricated, which means every piece of the ring is mailed, cut, forged, and soldered, and finished by me by hand
•Made in your choice of 14k or 18k recycled white, yellow, or rose gold
•Made with your choice of hammered, brushed (as seen in the photos of the original ring), or smooth high shine finish
•Use the dropdown menu to choose your diamond and gold karat (14k or 18k)
•Want one of these diamonds sent in a narrow or wider band, or in a different style of ring? Want a matching wedding band to go with your diamond ring? Just reach out to me at treloar [!at] telus.net to discuss customization options. I build each of these rings by hand by myself, so any sort of ring style is possible.
•Don't know the ring size you need this in? Please reach out to me for help prior to purchase, or get sized by at least two local jewellers. If this ring is a surprise and you don't know the recipient's finger size, please ask me for help first. I will work with you to try to get the right ring size, although this is not a size estimate I can guarantee. I will build this to the size you request and am not responsible if you have guessed wrong. Considering shipping charges both ways and the resizing fee I charge, it is generally quicker, cheaper, and more accurate to have the ring sized locally by your neighbourhood jeweler. This jeweller can also get an accurate ring size from the recipient's finger.
The Diamonds:
I hand-selected each of these diamonds directly from the diamond cutter. I chose them for their unique colours, patterning, and shapes. I also chose them because, unlike many salt and pepper diamonds, these ones have no to very minimal surface inclusion/pitting (I cannot see any surface pitting in any of them). These were imported legally into Canada, and are verified as being both conflict, free and non-Russian in origin.
The close-up photos of the diamonds were taken by the diamond cutter, and are shot under bright artificial lightning. The video shows the diamonds in bright sunlight and filtered sunlight. If you require further photos or video, please let me know.
•P1: 0.55 carats, 7.6 x 4.1 mm dark speckled
•P2: 1.48 carats, 9.0 x 7.4 mm deep silvery black
•S1: 0.84 carats, 7.3 x 6.7 mm dark speckled with translucent zoning
•S2: 0.66 carats, 6.9 x 5.5 mm overall dark speckle
•K1: 0.76 carats, 8.1 x 6.2 mm mid-silver tone with shimmery dark speckles
•K2: 1.21 carats, 9.5 x 6.7 mm mid-silver grey with some pale speckling
•K3: 0.47 carats, 7.6 x 5.5 mm translucent body tone with striking black bloom-like inclusions
Please note that the ring in the photo has been sold. For reference, the original ring was built in a size 5, and had a shield cut diamond that was 0.75 carats, 7.7 x 5.8 mm. The client requested that the diamond and it’s basil setting as low to the finger as possible. It is also possible to build the diamond sits up a top of the band, providing space for a stacking ring to flush underneath of it. If you would like this option, please let me know in the ‘note to shop’ during checkout.

About rose cut diamonds:
•The history of rose cut stones dates back almost 600 years. This antique cut is thought to be named for the compass rose, or for the rose stained glass windows seen in churches. This cut consists of a flat bottom being given to the stone, and facets that rise up the surface of the stone to its peak or crest.
•Please be sure to check the dimensions of your chosen diamond on a metric ruler- the best way to get an idea of scale is to look at a ruler for the dimensions of the stone. Each of these diamonds is a different size, so your diamond may look larger than, smaller than, or similar in size to the original ring once your ring is built. If you need a good visual of scale, recreate the shape and size of the diamond in paper. Add approximately 1 mm to the length and the width, to represent the additional size added by the bezel setting. Place this paper cutout on your finger. This is by far the best way to get a customized visual. My hands are huge, so having me model a diamond on my finger likely won't give you an accurate idea of scale when compared to your own finger.
Finish/Texture on ring:
•Possible finishes/textures include high-shine, brushed (as seen on original ring), or hammered. Want a different finish? Contact me first to discus.
•The band is 2mm wide x 1.5mm thick. The bezel is hand-built by me and is customized to fit your chosen diamond. I leave the back of the bezel open to allow maximum light flow through the stone.

BUYERS OUTSIDE OF CANADA AND THE USA- IMPORTANT: Please note that I am not able to estimate for you what your country will charge you in import fees when you purchase from me. Any import fees, tariffs, VATs, sales taxes, Customs brokerage fees, etc. are assessed by your government and the Customs broker who brokers your purchase through your country’s border. These fees cannot be estimated nor collected by me/Etsy (unless you are in Canada or the USA), and are NOT included in the payment you make via this website. You must pay your own import fees as they cannot be estimated nor collected by me/Etsy.
Please call your country's customs office if you would like an idea of fees that may be levied upon your purchase. These fees cannot be collected by me nor Etsy and are the SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE BUYER.
But please contact me if you have any problems with your order.
I am always open to hearing your design ideas. Please contact me through the shop, or at treloar@telus.net to discuss design possibilities.
If you are unsure of your ring size, the best way to be sized accurately is by visiting two commercial jewelers. Please ensure they size you using their thin sizing tools- not the wide band sizing tools, nor by having you try on rings from their display.
If any questions arise around being properly sized, I am always happy to help- contact me through the shop, or at treloar@telus.net
I don’t provide a gift wrapping service. Rings and earrings ship in jewelry boxes that are hot foil stamped with the Specimental logo.
If the person for whom you are purchasing the piece shares your address, please be aware of the following: International export law dictates that the detailed contents of packages, and their value, be clearly marked on the outside of the package. This means that if they see the package before you do, they can easily tell what they are being gifted with.
Need secrecy for this delivery? The very best option is to have your package held for you at your closest Fed Ex store- if you are unsure of its location, I'm happy to help.
Our hands are busy objects, and any ring worn on a finger can become accidentally damaged. All rings need regular maintenance. Make sure you are buying your raw diamond ring from a jeweler with the knowledge and experience needed to ensure your stone stays put. Ask them about their warranty and their repair/upkeep policy. Look at how frequently they work with raw diamonds, and assess whether they have the technical experience to create a ring that will last your lifetime.
I stand behind each piece of jewellery I make. If something goes wrong with your ring, at any time- you slam your finger in a drawer and crush the band, you break a prong, you smash and crack your stone- you can count on me to support you with the repair.
My gold is all recycled- the metal plant I purchase it from has been in business for over 100 years. They smelt their metals to the highest environmental standards, to cause the least impact on the environment. They do not deal with newly mined metals, as these metals cause much greater destruction to the environment.
There is no visible difference between recycled metals and newly-mined metals. There is also no difference as far as the karat of the metals go- 18k recycled gold is exactly the same in constitution as 18k newly mined gold. The vast majority of my clients prefer their metals recycled, as environmental impact is of concern when choosing the perfect piece of jewelry.
I can use your heirloom stones in a new design. The stones must be pulled from their settings and checked for stability by a professional jeweler prior to shipping them to me. I cannot recycle your gold. I am not set up to smelt gold in the studio, so am not able to melt down your old gold pieces for you.
My current production times are listed in my shop announcement. If you need something more quickly, please get in touch via the shop, or at treloar@telus.net
Depending upon my work and family schedule, I am happy to accommodate your rush orders. There is no additional charge for a rush order. However, please do get in touch prior to ordering to discuss your deadline with me.
Yes! All of my pieces are completely hand fabricated in the studio by me, from raw materials. I am able to create any of my designs with any stone, in any composition. In short, you can have your ring absolutely any way you like it. Contact me through the shop, or via treloar@telus.net to get the discussion around your perfect piece of jewelry started.
A raw diamond is an exceptionally difficult stone to set properly. Their unique shape means that a custom setting needs to be fabricated for each and every stone. The way in which the setting is closed around the diamond must be approached in a very particular fashion.
I began setting these stones into my rings in 2009, when only a small handful of jewelers were working with this type of stone. As the appeal of raw diamonds has exploded, countless numbers of jewelers are now incorporating them into their designs. I have set thousands of raw diamonds into my pieces since then.
